RESEARCH Accountability for AI
Global business communications platform provider 8×8, commissioned Censuswide to conduct research exploring attitudes to AI-enabled communications, and the factors organisations consider when choosing a platform. The survey revealed that as AI becomes embedded across new and existing communications estates, organisations are placing greater emphasis on governance, security, data location, visibility and control. Where AI infrastructure is hosted is now a major factor when choosing communications technology, with 84% of UK CIOs and CTOs saying it is important to their decision, and 39% naming it as their top priority compared with 30% globally. Technology leaders are also carrying much of the accountability for AI outcomes. Half of UK respondents identified the CIO as accountable when an AI agent makes an error in a customer interaction, while just 5% placed it with legal or compliance, reinforcing the need to consider how AI will be governed, monitored and controlled as its use expands across the business. www.8×8.com AI fog Global cybersecurity company N-able has published an independent global research report examining how small and medium size enterprises are scaling to drive business continuity during this new era of Frontier AI. The AI Fog Report: When the Signal Becomes the Noise finds the security industry at an inflection point. As organisations rapidly adopt AI-powered security technologies, increasingly capable Frontier AI models are transforming both cyber defence and attacker capabilities. The research reveals three critical challenges – AI is amplifying complexity within already complex security environments, security teams are struggling to separate context from noise to identify what matters most, and AI adoption is outpacing organisational trust and governance. Together, these trends are reshaping how organisations manage cyber risk and highlighting the need for greater context, confidence and control. www.n-able.com AI-related incidents are widespread New research by IBM finds that AI-related incidents are widespread across the UK, but governance capabilities and risk accountability are not keeping pace with adoption of the technology. Eight in ten UK executives surveyed say an AI-related incident – including an agent failure, data exposure, AI-driven decision error, or AI security breach – reached their board or C-suite in the past year. Yet fewer than half (35%) of those organisations cite a change to AI governance policy or frame works in response. The findings highlight a growing governance challenge as AI agents take on more autonomous work. UK respondents are among the most ambitious in EMEA when it comes to AI adoption, 68% expect AI agents to have some level of autonomy decisions by 2027. Yet only 53% believe their governance structures can scale to manage that future, highlighting a potential readiness gap. www.ibm.com
