RESEARCH Accountability for AI

Global business communications platform provider 8×8, commissioned Censuswide to conduct research exploring attitudes to AI-enabled communications, and the factors organisations consider when choosing a platform. The survey revealed that as AI becomes embedded across new and existing communications estates, organisations are placing greater emphasis on governance, security, data location, visibility and control. Where AI infrastructure is hosted is now a major factor when choosing communications technology, with 84% of UK CIOs and CTOs saying it is important to their decision, and 39% naming it as their top priority compared with 30% globally. Technology leaders are also carrying much of the accountability for AI outcomes. Half of UK respondents identified the CIO as accountable when an AI agent makes an error in a customer interaction, while just 5% placed it with legal or compliance, reinforcing the need to consider how AI will be governed, monitored and controlled as its use expands across the business. www.8×8.com AI fog Global cybersecurity company N-able has published an independent global research report examining how small and medium size enterprises are scaling to drive business continuity during this new era of Frontier AI. The AI Fog Report: When the Signal Becomes the Noise finds the security industry at an inflection point. As organisations rapidly adopt AI-powered security technologies, increasingly capable Frontier AI models are transforming both cyber defence and attacker capabilities. The research reveals three critical challenges – AI is amplifying complexity within already complex security environments, security teams are struggling to separate context from noise to identify what matters most, and AI adoption is outpacing organisational trust and governance. Together, these trends are reshaping how organisations manage cyber risk and highlighting the need for greater context, confidence and control. www.n-able.com AI-related incidents are widespread New research by IBM finds that AI-related incidents are widespread across the UK, but governance capabilities and risk accountability are not keeping pace with adoption of the technology. Eight in ten UK executives surveyed say an AI-related incident – including an agent failure, data exposure, AI-driven decision error, or AI security breach – reached their board or C-suite in the past year. Yet fewer than half (35%) of those organisations cite a change to AI governance policy or frame works in response. The findings highlight a growing governance challenge as AI agents take on more autonomous work. UK respondents are among the most ambitious in EMEA when it comes to AI adoption, 68% expect AI agents to have some level of autonomy decisions by 2027. Yet only 53% believe their governance structures can scale to manage that future, highlighting a potential readiness gap. www.ibm.com

Double award win for Oyster Oyster has been recognised with two major accolades following a strong first half of FY26/27. The company was named iTS Diamond Partner of H1 FY26/27 and also secured the award for most net new PaperCut customers acquired during the same period. In a statement John Caspell, Channel Partner Manager, iTS said: “Winning both is a result of the team’s dedication, expertise, and unwavering focus on customer success. A brilliant result and a well-deserved recognition of the impact Oyster continues to make. Congratulations to Richard [Harris] and everyone involved.” www.oystermps.co.uk Sustainable solutions UWE Bristol has redistributed 118 laptops and desktops through a new IT Equipment Reuse Scheme, avoiding an estimated 21.9 tonnes of CO₂e and delivering more than £30,700 in social and financial value since its launch. Developed in partnership with technology solutions provider DTP Group, the scheme extends the working life of university-owned devices by securely data wiping and refurbishing equipment that would otherwise have reached the end of its first use within the University. The devices are then given a second life through three routes: providing free laptops to students experiencing financial hardship or who are care-experienced; selling refurbished technology to UWE Bristol students and staff at significantly reduced prices; and donating equipment to charities, schools and community organisations. Stuart Broadbent, Client Devices Director, DTP Group said: “Technology still has value long after its first life within an organisation has ended and UWE Bristol’s scheme is a great example of what can happen when that value is approached differently. What makes this initiative particularly powerful is that the impact goes beyond keeping devices in use for longer.” https://dtpgroup.co.uk

circular production in Japan and France to create a regional loop of resource and component reuse, further expanding circularity. Ricoh and ETRIA have long worked together to reduce newly sourced material

manufacturing competitiveness. As the first application, the concept will be introduced to Ricoh’s A3 mono MFPs, with localised

resources and components from existing products directly in the latest-generation models. With Circular New, Ricoh and ETRIA aim to establish Evolving Circularity, moving beyond reducing environmental impact to continuously channel recovered resources and components into next-generation product value while advancing manufacturing itself. In its Mid-Term Management Strategy ’26, announced in March 2026, Ricoh set a target

production and launch scheduled in Japan and Europe in the first half of 2027. Compared with conventional centralised production at major manufacturing sites in Asia, localised circular production close to consumption markets is designed to reduce the proportion of newly sourced materials used from approximately 76% to as low as approximately 21%. Customers will receive the same latest-

BULLETIN

Antalis to expand European reach Antalis has signed a binding agreement to acquire the distribution activities of Papyrus in Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Germany, marking a significant expansion of its regional distribution footprint. Antalis said the deal would strengthen its distribution network and customer reach across Central and Eastern Europe. By combining the acquired operations with its existing presence in the region, the company aims to enhance its position as a leading European B2B distributor and further improve customer service capabilities. The acquired businesses generated approximately €215 million in net sales in FY2025, employing 255 people and serving more than 13,000 customers with an assortment of 21,000 SKUs of printing and office papers, supported by an operational network of 12 warehouses across the region. Hervé Poncin, CEO, Antalis said the agreement represents an important step in strengthening the company’s presence and distribution capabilities, adding that combining the two organisations’ customer

bases, teams and logistics networks would enable Antalis to further develop its offering and provide stronger support to customers. Completion of the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals in several European countries. Until completion, all entities will continue to operate independently. www.antalis.co.uk

BLOC strengthens supplier partnerships BLOC has brought its supplier community together through a series of online meetings, with over 80 key supplier partners attending to hear an update on the group one year on, including progress to date, recent developments and future opportunities. Within these meetings, the focus was on how BLOC connects suppliers with its member community and the opportunities available to support growth through marketing, training, events and direct engagement. Suppliers also heard how BLOC’s team of 33 industry experts can work as an extension of their own teams, helping to build brand awareness and identify new opportunities across the membership. One year since launch, BLOC now represents over 246 shareholder members and subsidiaries, with a combined turnover of £750 million and around £110 million in wholesale spend across workplace supplies, providing a strong platform to provide even greater value for both suppliers and members. www.bloc-group.co.uk

EVENTS

The penultimate round of the 2026 PrintIT Reseller and Technology Reseller Golf Society was played at Wyboston Lakes Golf Club on September 17. Paul Johnson reports PrintIT Reseller and Technology Reseller Golf Society 2026

What a great couple of days in Bedford! We all met up the night before the golf for a few beers and an amazing Italian meal at Higgins Pantry. Thank you to Mike Ianiri for helping organise the meal. The weather on September 17 was not looking good, so waterproofs and brollies were packed. However, we managed to miss most of the rain and ended up with a nice warm day at Wyboston Lakes Golf Club. The course played a lot harder than most people expected but everyone had a great day.

The winners on the day were; Nearest the Pin – Paul Johnson Nearest the Pimms – Lee Waddingham, First Class Business Solutions Longest Drive – Brandon Malone, PEAC Solutions Nearest the Pin in Two – Paul Cooke, Access4 Team Prize – Team 2 with 84 points – Craig Herrett, AllIoT Technologies, Kevin McNally, Asolvi, Graham Bunting, Trust Partner Services and Brandon Malone, PEAC Solutions Overall Winner on the Day – Dean Gaunt with 40 points

A special shout-out to Ross Jack of DialPad for providing a Range Finder for the overall winner at each event and to Access4 for sponsoring all of the dinners prior to each golf day this season. This has created a fantastic opportunity for those coming down the night before to meet up with old and new colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone that joined us. The Kingswood Events Team would like to thank all our sponsors for their support. They are Access4, GetCrisp, PEAC Solutions, Dialpad, RISO UK and Voiceworks .

WORKPLACE

Lisa White, Office & Accounts Manager, Kingswood Media and Tech Events, picks the tools she uses every day and couldn’t do her job without I couldn’t do my job without…

As most of my day is spent looking at the screen it’s a real must to have the bigger second screen so that I can actually see what I’m doing. I also like using the dual screen feature. It makes checking and comparing documents and figures so much easier when you can see them side by side and the extra screen space is really helpful.

I also spent nine years working in a school front office. Alongside working in reception and speaking to lots of people on a daily basis I was also responsible for organising all staff training, making bookings, record keeping etc. I guess all those different experiences come back and feed into what I do now.  Exercise I really enjoy exercise. I love team sports and my top two are netball, which I’ve always played and still play once a week, and padel, which I’ve recently started. It’s great fun and very sociable. If I can’t get to netball or padel, then walking is my next favourite thing. Getting out for a walk really clears your mind. And if you’re walking with somebody it’s great to walk and talk, it’s an easier conversation than sitting across a table.  My family Our children are older now, 24 and 21, and they’re both still at home although they’re working now. It’s really nice to come home at the end of the day and spend time talking to each other about our days and what’s going on. They’re also quite helpful on the technology front. They’re very supportive and patient with me, and they’re always happy to sit down and talk me through things, especially technology!

 QuickBooks Online I use QuickBooks Online almost every day. I use it to create, send and track invoices and payments all in one place. The bank feed is a useful tool and can be updated in real-time giving all the financial information I need to keep our records accurate and up to date. It’s also great for novices like me with no accounting background.  My pen and paper and my to-do list I couldn’t be without them. I love a to‑do list. There’s something very satisfying about crossing things off and seeing how productive you’ve been. I tend to have two lists, a longer-term list of things I can refer back to and then my day-to-day list of what does need to be done. I cross it off as I go.  Transferrable skills I don’t think I could do everything I do now, from invoicing to getting more involved in the events side of the business, without the experience

Lisa White

 My laptop and monitor I use my laptop and my monitor every day and I definitely prefer to work on two screens. I hadn’t realised how much I relied on the monitor until it crashed last week and it was suddenly gone. It was difficult working from one small screen and hunched over a tiny laptop!

I’ve gained from my previous roles. It all links together and gives you the skills you need. For example, I used to work at a stockbroker in London on the French and Italian desk, and organised

roadshows for companies coming to London to meet with investors. That experience is definitely helping with the PrintIT Reseller r oadshows we’ve launched this year.
